Discord’s limits
- Free: 20 MB a file, since August 2026. It was 10 MB before.
- Nitro Basic: 50 MB. Nitro: up to 1 GB.
- Boosted servers: 50 MB at Level 2 and 100 MB at Level 3, for everyone in that server.
Discord’s phone app now checks the size before it compresses anything, so a clip that’s a little too big no longer squeezes through. It has to fit before you send it.
How to get a video under 20 MB
- Tap Pick a video.
- Keep Discord picked, or choose your Nitro or server size.
- Tap Compress, then Save or send. On your phone, you can share it straight to Discord. On your tablet, you can share it straight to Discord. Then drag it into Discord.
A clip up to about 30 seconds stays 1080p at 20 MB, and a one-minute clip comes out 720p. For longer clips, cut it to the part that matters: it looks much better than squeezing the whole thing.
Why does an iPhone clip get bigger?
iPhones film in HEVC. When you share one, the phone may convert it to H.264 first, so the file can grow past the limit on the way. Ours are H.264 already, the format Discord plays everywhere, so there’s nothing left to convert.
Private by design
Your clip is made smaller on your phone.Your clip is made smaller on your tablet.Your clip is made smaller on your computer. It isn’t sent anywhere, so there’s no upload, no queue and no watermark, and it works in airplane mode after your first visit.
